Reverent Service

“Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling;” Psalms 2:11 NKJV

How can I serve God? “Serve the Lord with fear.” The fear of God refers to a deep reverence and respect for His authority and power.

Abraham served God with fear. When God told him to offer up his only son, Isaac, he obeyed without reservation and received a commendation: “Now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son from me” Genesis 22:12.

That singular act qualified Abraham for a trans-generational blessing.

Those who truly serve God with fear are not those who put up a show of mournful or sad faces Malachi 3:14, but those who with reverent submission to His will, are ready to release their life, their time, their most prized assets, and dearest possessions to God.

Serving God with fear enlists us for God’s remembrance. “The Lord listened and heard them; so, a book of remembrance was written before Him: For those who feared the Lord.”

Is there anything – habit, asset, possession, qualification, title, resources – too much for you to let go of as part of reverent service to God?

Father, please grant me the grace to render acceptable service to you IJN.

Shalom!
